Your boss called, he wants his budget back

Whether you care to admit it or not, IT budgets are shrinking. In this changing IT world, you have two options:
1) You can be the IT manager that says, “I’m going to do whatever I can to protect my budget,” regardless of what that means for the people you support.
2)You can be the IT manager who succeeds by helping your end users succeed.
In the old days of IT, the IT manager served as the filter between the services and the end user. But, in today’s world, end users are going to get the services they need, with or without your help. The “I’m bigger and better than my users” mentality is no longer going to work.
My recommendation? Be the IT manager who is for supporting the end users. In the end, you’ll be supporting yourself as well.
When it comes to the budget, as CIO, CFO, or whatever your title may be, you’re in a position where the budget is tight. Eventually, your options will be to either go to the cloud or do everything on-premise.
First, let’s talk about on-prem. On-prem dev/test is a HUGE investment that takes an average of 3 years before seeing any returns. In case you haven’t noticed, things move very quickly in the tech world. Hardware becomes outdated in 3 years, which means just as that on-prem investment starts to pay off, it’s time to upgrade.
A move to the cloud, on the other hand, is a much smaller investment. In the cloud, the cost of failure is minimal. And when you’re successful, you can scale easily. Working in the cloud means you’re saving money, increasing efficiency, and improving agility. With Cloudshare, developers can stay under budget, easily share their work, and overall, be more productive. Ultimately, Cloudshare helps the company’s bottom line and increases your value.
So, my question is this: Are you going to continue to protect yourself or are you going to put your end users, the developers, first and move to the cloud?
