One of the lessons we’ve learned over and over the last couple years is that a lot of bad things can happen anywhere in the world. Earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, tornadoes – it almost doesn’t matter where you are, you are at risk. And so is your business. In fact, the case could be made that some sort of comprehensive Business Continuity plan is every bit as important for a small business as it is for a multi-national corporation. If it’s your business it’s probably important to you.
But where to even begin? Those big companies have dedicated IT and facilities departments, and consultants who do nothing but develop and refine their Disaster Recovery plans. But if you’re a Real Estate agent, or a landscaper or a CPA, or a software developer you have records and files you can’t afford to lose, but you also have systems you can’t operate your business without.
In this modern era of Cloud – Based resources, we’re all a lot better at backing up our data than we used to be. Even though we have exponentially more data, it is so much simpler and faster to synchronize our files with cloud storage and online backup providers. In fact, it’s fair to say that anybody who loses data today deserves what they got – there are just too many good options not to use at least one of them.
But a data backup scheme does not a disaster recovery plan make. You need computers, operating systems and software, configured ahead of time to mirror the mission critical operations of your day-to-day business. And those systems need to be somewhere else, so they are not at risk from the same disaster that you’re preparing for. AND it would be nice if this sort of hot-site business continuity solution was affordable – after all, you might well never need to use it. In short, you need a “Hot Site”. So how best to get there?
Two words. Cloudshare ProPlus. Computers? Check. Operating Systems? Check. Software and configuration? Check. Remote but instantly accessible, even from your iPhone? Check. Affordable? ProPlus will fit in any small business budget, and unlike a regular insurance policy, it’s a useful addition to your existing day-to-day compute infrastructure.
It doesn’t even matter where you keep your data backed up – you can keep it on the Cloudshare VMs, or in your cloud storage/backup service. As soon as you can connect to the Internet – from a laptop, a netbook, even your iPad – you can fire up your Cloudshare ProPlus Environment, load your latest data backup and get back to work without missing a beat.
The peace of mind that comes with knowing you’ll be able to run your business tomorrow, no matter what. That’s at least one less thing to worry about.
